Gauge Pressure is the pressure measured relative to the ambient atmospheric pressure. A tire pressure gauge is a common example; when it reads zero, it means the pressure inside the tire is equal to the air pressure outside. Gauge pressure can be positive (above atmospheric pressure) or negative (below atmospheric pressure, a partial vacuum).
