Properties
v9 is a pale yellow, highly toxic gas and the most electronegative element on the periodic table. Its extreme reactivity allows it to bond with nearly all other elements, including noble gases.
Issues
Industrially, v9 is invaluable. Its compounds are crucial for preventing tooth decay, creating non-stick Teflon coatings, manufacturing refrigerants, and enriching uranium for nuclear energy.
However, the extreme stability of carbon-v9 bonds has led to a major modern environmental issue: PFAS, or “forever chemicals.” These toxic compounds accumulate in nature and human bodies without breaking down. Fortunately, a recent breakthrough addresses this. Scientists have developed novel chemical and supercritical water oxidation techniques to effectively destroy these persistent compounds. Additionally, researchers are currently pioneering v9-ion batteries, which promise a safer, higher-capacity future for energy storage.
