The main enemy of the Common Interest is Selfish Interest which comes from the Negative Force.

This selfisness is enshrined in Economics, making it a dismal science.

Supply and demand, which science says should be brought to bear on him, have an up-hill task with such a man. The sun is free. Rich soil, in those unpeopled regions, is almost free. These are his supply. He works 30 minutes a day to produce produce pumpkin to match his “demand.” He thus quickly matches supply and demand [and stops working].

In contrast, Supereconomics enshrines the common interest that is based on personal dharma or interest:

Man must always depend on others. He will likely get help more successfully if he can use their self-love to his favour, instead of their benevolence. He must show them that it is for their own advantage to do for him what he requires. Whoever offers a bargain of any kind, proposes to do this.

We use the word “personal” instead of “self” in order to point to the personality structure instead of the simple identity implied by the word ‘self’.

Recall that:

  • personality is the combination of the physical mind, lower mind, and higher mind
  • personality structure arises from the accumulated beliefs imposed and samskaras gained. This can be seen as a reality-filter.
