1 Isaac called Jacob and blessed him, and commanded him:
Do not marry any Canaanite woman (daughters of Canaan).*
2 Arise, go to Padan-aram, to the house of Bethuel your mother’s father.
Take a wife from there of the daughters of Laban your mother’s brother.
3 Anu bless you and make you fruitful and multiply you that you may be a multitude of people.
4 May he give you and your descendants the blessing given to Abraham, so that you may take possession of the land where you now reside as a foreigner, the land God gave to Abraham.
Superphysics Note!
5 So Isaac went to Paddan Aram, to Laban son of Bethuel the Aramean, the brother of Rebekah, who was the mother of Jacob and Esau.
6 Esau learned that Isaac had blessed Jacob and had sent him to Paddan Aram to take a wife from there, and that when he blessed him he commanded him, “Do not marry a Canaanite woman,” 7 and that Jacob had obeyed his father and mother and had gone to Paddan Aram.
8 Esau then realized how displeasing the Canaanite women were to his father Isaac.
9 So he went to Ishmael and married Mahalath, the sister of Nebaioth and daughter of Ishmael son of Abraham, in addition to the wives he already had.
10 Jacob went out from Beer-sheba, and went toward Haran.
11 He lighted on a certain place, and tarried there all night, because the sun was set; and he took of the stones of that place, and [put] them for his pillows, and lay down in that place to sleep.
12 He dreamed of a ladder set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven: and behold the agents of Anu ascending and descending on it.
13 Anu stood above it and said:
I am the Lord of Abraham your father and the Anu of Isaac.
I will give to you and your seed the land where you are now on. 14 Your seed shall be as the dust of the earth.
You shall spread abroad to the west, east, north, and south. In you and in your seed shall all the families of the earth be blessed.
15 I am with you and will keep you in all [places] whither you goest, and will bring you again into this land; for I will not leave you, until I have done [that] which I have spoken to you of.
16 Jacob woke up and said:
[afraid] Surely Anu is in this place, and I knew it not.
17 How dreadful is this place! This is the house of Anu and is the gate of heaven.
18 Jacob rose up early in the morning, and took the stone that he had put for his pillows, and set it up for a pillar, and poured oil on the top of it.
19 He called the name of that city Bethel. It was called Luz previously.
20 Jacob vowed saying:
If God will be with me and watch over me on this journey and will give me food and clothes 21 so that I can return safely to my father’s house, then Anu will be my God.
22 This stone that I have set up as a pillar will be Anu’s house, and of all that you give me I will give you 10%.
